First Federal pledges $50,000 to NW Maritime Center

Feb  2003
First Federal Savings & Loan of Port Angeles has affirmed its commitment to service in Jefferson County with a $50,000 pledge to the Northwest Maritime Center capital campaign. First Federal CEO Karen McCormick confirmed that the donation is the largest the Port Angeles-based savings and loan association has made in the Port Townsend area.

Northwest Maritime Center architects win AIA “firm of the year” award

The Miller/Hull Partnership, architect of the future Northwest Maritime Center (NWMC), has been awarded the 2003 American Institute of Architects Architecture Firm Award. In this story, Miller/Hull partner Craig Curtis, lead architect for the NWMC project, explains how the firm sought the contract “because it’s exactly the kind of project that we like to focus on”: it has an educational and interpretive aspect, the site is “magnificent,” and the clients are passionate about what they’re doing. The community-driven design process played into one of Miller/Hull’s strengths: listening. And Curtis declares, “The Maritime Center project has been one of the high spots, if not the highlight so far, of my career.” The Northwest Maritime Center will offer educational and cultural programs, maritime exhibits, and on-the-water activities aimed at preserving the area’s marine resources and celebrating its rich maritime past.

Northwest Maritime Center receives $1 million gift

The Northwest Maritime Center’s education building now has a proper name, thanks to a $1 million dollar gift from a California family foundation with family ties to Port Townsend.

Former bulk oil terminal will soon be open for public use

July 2002
It was official Tuesday, July 16 at noon: the digging is done at the site of the Northwest Maritime Center. After a duration of just four weeks, the environmental cleanup of petroleum-contaminated soils left behind at the site of the former bulk oil terminal is complete.

The Northwest Maritime Center dock is on track to be renovated next summer

Imagine what is now a dilapidated dock, of no use to vessels or pedestrians, transformed into a water gateway to Port Townsend.
